Homeless Veterans

Well... here I go again...

Been awhile since I 'Blogged", but I now have some spare time so thought I would loosen up my fingers, and typing skills at the same time.

Since the return of the troops from God only knows where, there seems to be a new influx of Veterans, and in particular a large amount of HOMELESS Veterans.

Now, why they are homeless is a different story (more on that at another time). For the sake of this writing I will assume (we all know what that means... right... ASS_U_ME)... [sorry if I have insulted you with the "U" portion of the preceding comment.] Anyway I digress... I will assume that they are homeless through no fault of their own, that they do not necessarily want to be homeless, and were just stricken with a bad case of fate for whatever reason.

Anyway, homeless they are...

Nowadays we all hear a lot of talk about this... President talks, First lady talks, Congress talks. Everybody talks.. talk, talk, talk, talk...With all the talking, one would think they would run out of words, but I think that is one of the traits of politicians... they seem to never run out of words. What they do seem to run out of, or have never found in the first place is SOLUTIONS... So... instead of more talk, let me provide a solution...

Sometimes it seems as if the Homeless Veterans are treated as criminals...
 Which gives me the idea.

In this great land of ours we do have one system that seems to be working very well, and my solution is a system that is modeled around it. Not sure what the exact name is called, but I will refer to it as the "Criminal Justice System". Perhaps you can see where I am headed, but let me continue. (if I am boring you then quit reading).

To create the system, we will simply call it the...

 "Veterans Justice System"

Since we all like acronym's (cause they make it harder to remember) we will just refer to this new system as "VJS".

Here's how it works...

Any homeless Veteran wishing to enter the system must get a Veterans Justice System Ticket (VJST). How this ticket is obtained is quite simple... All the homeless Veteran has to do is enter any Bank in the United States and declare... "I am a homeless Veteran, and in the name of Justice, I am contemplating robbing this bank". (No guns and or weapons permitted). Now, not being a lawyer, I will presume this is enough to get the Veteran arrested, yet not a felony. I might need a smart lawyer (aren't they all) to help out here... the idea is to get arrested, but no felony record... maybe a misdemeanor... anyway, I think one them smart lawyers can help out here.

Regardless, the idea is to go before a judge for sentencing. Now here is where we have to make a slight change. When the Judge asks "how do you plead", instead of guilty or not guilty we add "Guilty of Serving this Country". Maybe a trial, or maybe not, but if found "Guilty of Serving this Country" then the homeless Veteran gets the VJST ticket and is placed in a special "facility" reserved especially for the Homeless Veterans that are guilty of serving their country.

Now, they are no longer homeless, get room and board, maybe find productive things to do, and are free to leave anytime, so long as they can find meaningful employment and a home all for themselves (unless their wartime disabilities prevent that).

So... What do you think? Yes I know it will take a lot of money, but we seem to have sufficient funds to build and care for the real criminals in our country... Surely we can also find money to care for the Homeless Veterans.

So...

"Build it and they will come"
