Spend'n
These days there seems to be a lot of commotion regarding SPENDING and most of it seems to be centered on the government (BIG BROTHER).
Well, in general, I see nothing wrong with spending. After all isn't that what makes our economy go round and round? Spending can be good, or evil, depending on how it is done. I mean, if I spend some of my EARNED money on a car, then that probably means that whoever made that car and the several thousand parts that go into it get "some" of what I have spent, so that in turn gives them some to spend on whatever it is they want and so on and so forth. That is the good. The evil is when what I spend gets sidelined into the hand of the greedy, unethical, and dishonest folks. (Don't tell me they don't exist either... Just take at look at what the "Wall Street Pirates" have "captured" in the last couple years. But for now let's just be concerned with the honest hard working folks like you and me).
So then what is all the complaining about?
Here's what I think...
First off in order to "spend" you have to "have". Secondly, how much? And third what is the spending for?
But first a little clarification. By spending, I am referring to what we worked for. I am not referring to what we "Borrowed" in order to spend. In reality, this is not really ours to spend so to speak, as we must give it back, but we all know that we spend what we borrow, so call it as you may. But borrowing to spend is somewhat problematic.
Now, wouldn't we all want to spend what we earn as we wish? Great idea... right? Well not so "right" in our form of government (Democracy). So to be a citizen of our great nation we have all agreed to give ("spend") some of our earnings to BIG BROTHER. Now, we also rely on BIG BROTHER to spend what we give wisely. So now that we have "given" to BIG BROTHER, to spend it wisely, what would we want "BIG" to spend it on.
Well, one (me) would think that "BIG" would be spending it based on our form of government as "BIG" IS the government. I don't want to get into exactly what a Democratic Government is (Google it if you want details). But we still need some sort of definition here. I think Abraham Lincoln said it best when he gave the Gettysburg address, and summed it up in the last line of that famous speech. I know you all probably know it by memory, but just in case not, here it is... "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth". How that relates to spending is the key part of the line "for the people". Now I did not know Abe personally (just a few years before my time), but I have a hunch that Abe was referring to ALL THE PEOPLE, not just a few.
So then, that being the case it would be reasonable to expect "BIG" to hold "it's" end of the bargain by spending ONLY for the benefit of ALL THE PEOPLE.
So... my suggestion is that "BIG" take a look at all the things it spends on, and categorize into two piles.
Pile #1: For ALL the people.
Pile #2: For SOME of the people.
Then tell the folks in the "some" group that they are going to have to do just as the rest of us peasants do. If you want it earn it, but we (BIG) will not be spending it for you.
My hunch is that "BIG" will have a whole lot of stuff (Ugh... money) left over, and golly gee.... maybe give some of it back to us peasants to SPEND AS WE WISH.
Who knows... maybe "BIG" could then have a budget they could balance, and maybe reduce, and get rid of the deficit. (Remember that word "borrowed" I spoke of earlier). Maybe then all the commotion would go away, but we would have to take out the "Wall Street Pirates" in the process.
